Meet a Teacher
Jan Murphy has been a knitter since age 8. She learned to knit and purl at her mother's side, making pot holders and doll blankets. Over the years she has gained experience in many knitting techniques including fair isle, intarsia, cables, lace knitting, textured patterns, modular knitting and knitting in the round. Converting sweater patterns from conventional flat knit pieces to knit-in-the-round seamless sweaters is a favorite pastime.
Back in 2005, while working in the Snow White show at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Jan shared her knitting skills with fellow cast members, teaching everything from beginning knitting to advanced lace knitting techniques.
She has been here at the shop since August 2007, instrucing the drop-in classes on Wednesdays, 7pm to 9pm and Fridays 11am to 1pm. She looks forward to offering specific technique workshops in the near future and she is delighted to be a part of the gang here at Needle in a Haystack.
